MEET KIMBERLY
A host at heart.
An operator by instinct.
Part strategist. Part producer. Full-time people person.
I’m Kimberly Thornton, a San Francisco-based events, workplace experience, and hospitality leader. I bring people together—and build the teams, systems, and thoughtful details that make the experience work.
Good energy.
Serious follow-through.
For nearly two decades, my work has lived where ambitious ideas meet real-world execution. At Merchants Exchange Productions, I helped build in-house beverage, planning, production, and catering capabilities, while producing luxury private affairs, corporate gatherings, nonprofit celebrations, and high-profile fundraisers.
My work expanded into commercial real estate and workplace operations, including office buildouts, renovations, and amenity programming. A beautifully run workplace and an exceptional event share the same foundation: anticipate what people need, connect the moving parts, and make everyone feel expected.
Community has always been part of the job—and the joy. Alongside my professional work, I serve as Chair of BOMA San Francisco’s Events & Education Committee and have been recognized as Principal Member of the Year. My nonprofit experience includes work supporting Clinic by the Bay and Bay Scholars.
How I make it happen.
Start with the people.
Understand who the experience is for, what matters to them, and what a successful day should feel like.
Connect the big picture to the details.
Build a clear plan, align the budget and vendors, and keep the practical pieces moving together.
Lead from the floor.
Support the team, stay close to the work, and bring calm when the plan inevitably gets interesting.
Build something repeatable.
Create playbooks, service standards, and strong relationships that make the next experience even better.
The “Director of Happiness” part?
That’s a nickname from colleagues, and I’ve happily leaned into it. I care about the energy in a room just as much as the plan behind it. High standards and a sense of humor can absolutely coexist. In my experience, they make excellent company.
Something in mind?
A leadership role, an ambitious event, or a workplace that needs fresh energy—I’d love to hear what you’re thinking. I’m exploring full-time leadership opportunities and select consulting, interim, and project collaborations.
San Francisco based. Connection driven.
